You Can See Everything movie poster

I now understand why documentaries can win Best Picture. Nothing really happens in Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim's documentary about Elizabeth Holmes, yet not a single moment is boring.

It follows Holmes in the weeks before she reports to prison, and everyone around her is somehow more insane than you'd expect. Her ironclad belief that she's innocent, despite the literal fact that her product doesn't work, is genuinely dread-inducing. Fielder is hilarious: the point-blank questions, the uncomfortable silences, the staring from behind corners. My one gripe is that by inserting himself into their lives, he pushes it further from documentary and closer to a movie.

It also refuses to give you a final verdict. Is she a naive woman taken advantage of by man after man, or a manipulator using everyone around her? Probably somewhere in between, and the film is more honest for not pretending to know.

Worth watching? Absolutely.
